Price

Price has generally been the biggest obstacle for customers when considering LED illuminated signs. Many have also considered the long-term maintenance cost in addition to initial price. Through advancements in LED technology however, has led to less expensive than traditional neon signs.

Power Consumption

LED signs consume less power than neon signs. Less power leads to letting off less heat, which adds to the life of the sign. Typically, LEDs have a life-span up to 100,000 hours, and this includes being on 24/7!

Brightness

LEDs offer even dispersion of light, and lasts longer than a neon sign.

Maintenance and Safety

Essentially there is no maintenance with LEDs. Compared to neon, they are not fragile and give off much less heat. If a tube of neon is not sealed properly it may cause a leak, although not dangerous to humans you will have to replace the entire neon tube. Whereas if an LED module goes out, only that module will require a replacement, not the entire letter or shape of the LED strand. LEDs run on much lower voltage than neon also, typically a 12-volt DC system whereas neon is run off of voltages around 4,000-15,000 volts AC. These factors help make LEDs safer and more eco-friendly than neon.

Shipping


Due to the rigidity of LED modules, they are much less fragile than neon. This lessens the shipping cost as they do not require as much attention to packaging detail. Neon is so fragile that the vibration of any bounce or bump may cause the tube to break. The farther neon has to ship the greater the chance of a tube breaking. This can cause problems for customer upon arrival if they do not have resource to locally fix the tube. LEDs on the other hand would have to go through quite a hectic process before they would break.
